MEDIA WATCH: City planning crumbs
Hoyporhoy, La Prensa Aug, 15
THE MULTI-MILLION urban development plan that the Municipality of Panama has launched as a strategy to achieve better land use planning in the center of the capital district leaves out the more distant areas of the city.
Lack of equity investments so far planned by the district capital are obvious. While some $88 million is earmarked to provide the sidewalks on Via Espana and other major investments made to improve public infrastructure in sectors such as Bella Vista and San Francisco, Juan Diaz-for example, the district’s most populous city, receive the crumbs of the municipality’s annual budget This plan is far from being fair. It is unforgivable to keep forgetting the most remote areas of the capital
Why do they have to keep waiting to improve their quality of life? Mr. Mayor, we must invest in our city with a view to the future, but taking into account the 23 districts. Does the Mayor, still have time to correct the course in the next three years? We hope so.
