Controversial Martinelli comptroller dead

PANAMA’S COMPTROLLER general during the Ricardo Martinelli era, who was linked  to many of the corruption cases currently under investigation , has died.

Gioconda Torres de Bianchini, before being appointed to her post, watching over the country’s finances , had worked for Martinelli for 15 years. She became known as the lady in red after being called before the National Assembly to explain some of her actions while in office

Her death  was confirmed on Saturday, July 9, by the Democratic Change party, and Ricardo Martinelli  spokesman, Luis Eduardo Camacho, who said the ex-funcionary  had been hospitalized for several days.

Camacho said the funeral of Torres de Bianchini will be announced by relatives.
