MEDIA WATCH: Correcting Panama’s errors
Hoy por hoy La Prensa May 29
THE REQUEST for judicial assistance from Switzerland passed to the Public Ministry March 24 is extremely serious.
It is vital that all Panamanians, leaders and citizens, understand that with this issue the typical cries of politicking “political persecution” or “personal vendetta” and bad nationalist positions are inadmissible.
To comply with this request, efficiently, ie, promptly and fully, is essential to show the world that today looks at us with suspicion, that Panama itself is willing to straighten its course and fight against corruption, including the misuse of our financial and our judicial system.
Otherwise, not only would we be sending a wrong message, but also subjecting Panama to international ridicule insulation product.
Let us accept once and for all our past mistakes that allowed government corruption and citizens to play games.
President Juan Carlos Varela, Attorney General Kenia Porcell, and presiding judge Ayu Prado you are the ones who have the great responsibility to address our faults and determine the course that the country will take. There is no room for mistakes; if you want to pass into history as heroes rather than villains.
