Panama prosecutor checking Waked listings
PANAMA’S prosecutors who tend to move at a slower pace than their opposite numbers in Colombia have requested the public records of companies and firms linked to Nidal and Abdul Waked accused a week ago by the U.S. Treasury Department of money laundering and drug trafficking.
A judicial source told La Prensa said that this is one of the first steps carried out Anti-drug prosecutor Markel Mora in charge of the case,.
It was also reported that the prosecutor’s office is in the process of verifying information collected during the last week and analyzing the request for judicial assistance from the United States.
A source explained that the prosecutor is trying to see if a case can be prosecuted under the Panamanian penal code.
On Monday, Abdul Waked lawyer Guillermina McDonald downplayed the seven-year DEA investigation and said it only includes reports from newspapers and the internet.
