Argentina president named in alleged Panama irregularities
ARGENTINA judicial authorities have asked for Panama’s help in investigating links to alleged irregularities of President Mauricio Macri with two overseas companies.
Macri said Tuesday, May 3 that he accepts the measures taken to determine if he has committed irregularities He told a press conference that he is “available” to Federal Judge Sebastian Casanello, who has ordered an investigation into the companies.
“I will make all the necessary arrangements to confirm what I said is true,” said the president, who maintains he did not commit irregularities.
He also said that justice has to work “independently” in this case and also in the various investigations into his predecessor, Cristina Fernandez (2007-2015), for alleged illicit enrichment, forgery and defrauding the state.
The president also urged prosecutors “to be precise in investigations and statements shared with Argentina, to restore credibility and confidence.”
