Panama now bovine TB free

 

FOLLOWING three years of study, research and control  Panama has been declared free of  bovine tuberculosis.

The announcement came  Monday, March 28,  from , Bredio Velasquez, National Director of Animal Health, Ministry ofAgricultural Development (MIDA).

The process in eradicating this disease was achieved through the implementation of a diagnostic technology known as gammainterferon to detect and eradicate the disease in a short time, Goodridge  said Amador Goodridge of the Institute for Scientific Research and High Technology Services.

Bovine tuberculosis is a contagious chronic disease caused by bacteria of the genus Mycobacterium, which affects cattle. Humans can also become infected.
