Mulino gets release from preventive detention
A PANAMA judge has ordered the release from preventive detention of former Minister of Public Security, Jose Raul Mulino but he will barred from leaving the country and must report on the 30th of each month, and must live at the same address.
However the former minister will not be immediately released ,as the Third Anti-corruption Prosecutor, has two days in to appeal.
Judge Enrique Paniza nullified part of the criminal proceedings against former security officials charged with corruption as part of the contract to purchase radars from Italian conglomerate Finmeccanica subsidiary Selex.
Defense attorneys had argued that the prosecutor had failed to complete the investigation in the time allowed.
Prosecutor Zuleyka Moore requested that the judge call former Minister of Public Security José Raúl Mulino and former National Security Council Director Alejandro Garuz to trial for offences against public administration in the form of embezzlement.
The decision is open to appeal before the Second High Court of Justice.
Garuz is also in detention facing separate charges related to illegal wire tapping.
