Shortchanging gas stations

IF YOU THINK  your car is using more gas than usual, the problem may not be with the vehicle, but the gas station where you had what you thought was a  a fill-up.

During a recent  inspection of 41 gas stations by the Consumer Protection Authority, “ Anomalies” were detected at 11 of them.

The regulatory authority found that there were a number of problems that could have led to consumers being shortchanged. These included problems with the gasoline pumps as well as a failure to properly display prices of some products.

The institution said that the checks are carried out periodically.

Authority Administrator Óscar García Cardoze pointed out that constant verification ensures that equipment is properly calibrated and that consumers are protected.

He urged consumers to report suspected anomalies or other abuses against consumers.
