First Zica cases in Panama city as total hits 88.

FIFTEEN  new cases of Zica virus including  the first in Panama city were announced on Thursday,February 25, by Health Minister Francisco Javier Terrientes . The total number of cases is now 88.

There are 10 additional cases in Guna Yala, three in Tocumen, one in Las Cumbres and one in Bella Vista.

Two of  the  cases in the metropolitan area, were  imported by Venezuelan citizens.

 

The minister said  that 80% of those infected are asymptomatic, and  the epidemiological chain must be established.

Therefore strict controls are maintained at the Tocumen International Airport, and in countries like Venezuela, Brazil and Colombia where thousands  of people are infected.

In Panama, most of the cases are concentrated in Guna Yala, where more than 50 cases are reported.
