Crew of Panama registered ship rescued from pirates

NIGERIAN and Togo naval forces have rescued 14 crew members of the Panama registered Maximus, in the Bay of Guinea, and arrested six pirates

Naval forces are searching for two other crew members. of Indian and Pakistan nationality, who were taken away by pirates in a high speed launch

The rescue took place on Tuesday February 23, says  the Directorate General of Merchant Marine of the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP).

The Maximus, carying 4,700 tonnes of diesel, was approached by pirates while sailing south of Abidjan in waters belonging to Ivory Coast on Feb.11.
The Gulf of Guinea  Trackin Center confirmed that the naval forces of the neighboring countries of the west coast of Africa were  working together in relation to the incident,
After several days of intense search, the Naval Forces of Togo and Nigeria were able to locate and intercept the ship.

Nigerian naval forces , are still in search of the two missing crew members who were taken hostage. The Maximus is now in the port of Lagos
