Seafood market to get facelift and odor cut
PANAMA’S Seafood market is set to undergo a $3.7 million facelift that will include an underground waste disposal unit to end one of the location’s trademark features, the smell of rotting fish.
The city’s capital’s mayor, Jose Isabel Blandon, made the announcement Wednesday Feb. 17.
Work will start next week, significantly at the back of the market where waste is currently handled.
The market which has lacked full maintenance for decades, has seen declining sales because of lack of parking space and that problem will also be addressed along with improved pedestrian walkways..
Hot water lines and solar panels will be installed and lighting and security will be beefed up.
