60,000 without water in Changuinola,

SOME 60,000 Changuinola residents  have been without water since Sunday night Feb. 7 and  will not get  normal service until early Friday, Feb. 12  says Marianela de Quintero director of  the Water and Sewers Authority (IDAAN) in Bocas del Toro.

De Quintero said the Teribe river level fell  a few weeks ago it was necessary to divert the course towards the intake pipe. The problem was exacerbated because a piece of the suction pump fell to the bottom of the water intake.

Idaan  has used three tank trucks to deliver water between neighborhoods while the work continues.

Meanwhile representatives of Panama’s $30 million bottled water industry report that sales are booming and the drought has not yet affected its production capacity.
