Nurses clash with police at presidency
NURSING TECHNICIANS struggled with officers of the Institutional Protection Service (SPI) and riot police at the entrance to the Presidency, on Friday Jan.29 after being told they could not enter for a meeting to seek to reach an agreement on wage increases.
Nurses tried to cross the security perimeter and were intercepted by agents.
However, Orlando Marin, nursing technician present at the event, said the leadership of the National Association of Practitioners, Nursing Assistants and Technicians (Anpate) managed to intervene and then entered the Presidency to continue negotiations.
The nurses have been on strike since Jan.14
Jorge Perez, Anapate president of, said that to date there have been several meetings between the parties, without defining agreements. President Juan Carlos Varela has called for more time, reports La Prensa.
