Ex- VPs criminal hearing suspended

FORMER Vice President Felipe Virzi has dodged the bullet, at least for a few weeks, in one of the criminal investigations he faces.

A hearing was was suspended in Veraguas, on Thursday January 28.

Virzi and María de los Ángeles Pittí have been accused of falsifying a public document and fraud to the detriment of the company Corporation Edy S.A.

The hearing was suspended because the Supreme Court has not resolved a warning of unconstitutionality filed by defense lawyers. The motion was not presented to the Supreme Court until Jan. 20.

The hearing will resume March 4.

Virzì’s lawyers are Evidel Vigil and Rony Batista, while the defense team of Pitti is headed by Carlos Muñoz Pope.

The charges are based on a complaint filed by lawyer Roberto Moreno, who accused Virzi and Pitti of improperly changing the board of the company.

Virzi, who remains under house arrest, having been released from his cell, because of his age, also faces a separate criminal process related to the failed irrigation project in Tonosí.
