H1N1 virus cancels Baru Carnival

CARNIVAL  has been  canceled in the Baru area  of Chiriqui because of the spread of the AH1N1 virus which has ready killed three people.

At a meeting in Baru between members of the Chamber of Commerce, Mayor Franklin Valdés, parents, councilors and other authorities, public concern  was voiced about a possible increase in  the number of infections, not just from  the carnival, but also for the start of classes.

Agustin Saldana, regional director of Health (MOH) said that there are now 32, but the trend reflects a decline in new infections.

However  the MoH has increased disease surveillance and prevention in the border area. Governor Chiriqui Governor Agustin Mendez, said that to date 5000 children and adults have been vaccinated.
