Martinelli mocks, Court rocks
WHILE FACTIONS in the Supreme Court are engaged in internal squabbeles, victims of illegal surveillance during the last administration, are calling on the court to move forward on the investigation of ex-president Ricardo Martinelli.
The plenary of the court ordered the arrest of Martinelli on Dec. 21, but the case has stalled since then.
PRD leader Balbina Herrera, who was one of the victims, was critical of the court.
“This has exceeded the limit of expectations,” she said. “We want to know the status,” she told La Prensa.
In December the plenum of the court authorized Judge Jeronimo Mejia to take measures to enforce an order of preventive detention against Martinelli. But Herrera said: “To date they have not done anything.”
Fellow PRD leader Mitchell Doens, said that 15 days ago a note was sent to Mejía asking for appropriate action be taken.
“But Mejia has not proceeded and Martinelli is still mocking the country,” he said.
Carlos Herrera Morán, who represents victim Mauro Zúñiga, has said that there is concern about this topic.
“The Panamanian people are sick and tired of these situations; We are reaching the limit that we are not going to have faith in anyone,” he said.
