OFF THE CUFF: Upgrading city street signage
PLANS for a pilot project to improve Panama city street signage have been approved by the mayor’s office with a budget of $624,000. Proposals for the project will be accepted until Feb. 29.
Once the contract has been awarded, it should be delivered within nine months
“The idea is to formalize the names given to streets and make it easier for drivers to find specific addresses, ” says the mayor’s office. But no mention of its impact on quaint local direction-giving.
Could it be the beginning of the end of guidance like: “It’s next door to where Eduardo’s bakery used to be opposite to where there was a movie house, before they knocked down the clinic on the other side of the road …”?
