Drought brings call for Carnaval suspension
DROUGHT affecting Herrera has led The Commission of Justice and Peace of the Roman Catholic Church Chitre Diocese to ask authorities to suspend Carnaval.
The commission called on the authorities to make the decision to preserve the health and well-being of the population.
It said that the event would bring more people to the area, which would increase water usage at a time when the area is struggling to meet the current demand.
They are concerned that if the event moves forward, it will deplete the few existing water reserves.
