Riot police to control striking nurses

NURSING  technicians   in their white uniforms stood face  to face with black garbed riot police carrying shields in Panama City,  on Thursday morning, January 14.

The confrontation took place  on Via Transístmica, opposite the Social Security Hospital Complex. They closed one lane of the road until they were removed from the street by riot police.

They remained on the sidewalk to protest.

“The government has mocked us,” said one of the protesters.

In La Chorrera nurses blocked the transAmerica Highway..

Last Saturday, nursing technicians announced that they would give health authorities until Wednesday to propose a new wage agreement. They announced the strike after the government failed to meet that deadline.
