Ayu Prado repsonds to Martinelli interference report
Ayú Prado sent a note to National Assembly President Rubén De León and Credentials Committee Chairman Jorge Iván Arrocha asking them to determine if there is evidence to support the claims made by Díaz, who said that Martinelli asked him not to run for chief justice in 2014, reports La Prensa.
“We hope that this matter will be treated in strict adherence to the fundamental guarantees and procedural principles under the constitution and the law,” he noted.
Diaz said that Martinelli wanted Alejandro Moncada Luna to be elected chief justice.
“He will do things that you don’t want to do,” Martinelli allegedly told Diaz.
In the end, neither candidate would win the post, as Ayú Prado was elected. Moncada Luna would later plead guilty to fraud and unjustified enrichmentand got a reduced sentence of 5 years in jail.
