Top level firings, resignations at Education Ministry
PANAMA’S Ministry of Education, still recovering from scandals linked to the previous administration has confirmed high level firings and resignations.
Although an exact number was not revealed, some of the officials who left office were at the national level and included leaders in curriculum development and purchasing reports La Prensa.
“I would say that the reason for the restructuring is a loss of confidence,” said Minister Marcela Paredes de Vasquez. “We have had to address a number of errors that have caused significant delays.”
The minister said that the officials who were dismissed were hired during the current administration. She also said that audits are planned to determine if there was any criminal wrongdoing in the handling of resources.
She added that she will “continue reviewing the management of all departments” to ensure that the educational goals outlined in the current governments national plan are met.
