Highway death toll continues into new year

THE DEATH TOLL on Panama highways continues unabated in 2016, and is on the way to challenging, last year’s  grim total of 414.

Thursday January 7, saw another three  people killed, within three hours of each, One, a 56-year-old  man by was struck by a hit and run driver in Villa Caribbean in Colon. The car was later found abandoned near San Judas.

A woman was killed in December while crossing the four-lane highway  at 5 am.

A man was killed in Illa Unida,  Chilibre  when in poor visibility he ran into a damaged  van parked in the middle of the highway. There were no warning signs according to witnesses.The severely injured driver was flown to Santo Tomas Hospital where he died.
