IN HIS REPORT to the nation, the President characterized his achievements in 2015 and priorities for 2016, highlighting the methodology of reconciliation through dialogue with unions, interest groups and civil society.
However, the president failed to detail how he will address key issues for the citizens such as the high cost of living, the future of the pension scheme, the situation of insecurity that has little connection with international drug trafficking or multiple inconsistencies of state health services.
The country has made significant progress in the fight against corruption, which require strengthening public policies and preventive institutions that can restore credibility to citizens about the efficiency and legitimacy of its government.
However, Panamanians continue with the expectation that the president clearly defines how the government will address all these issues.
After 18 months in office, the time for promises has passed and concrete actions becomes urgent.
