PHONY doctor jailed for 42 months
A MAN who promoted himself as a family doctor and pedetrician and became s Ministry of Health official was sentenced to 42 months in prison on Tuesday Dec. 16 by a Sixteenth Criminal Court judge.
Grimaldo Cordoba‘s lawyer, Eudocia Guerra, said that the sentence does not conform to law and will be appealed.
Cordoba was charged with practicing medicine without a license. The lawyer stressed that his client did not have a medical license, but added, “there was no unlawful exercise of functions.”
Cordoba was the former director of Health Promotion. He resigned in January after being accused of not having a medical license. He was charged in March.
The hearing was closed by the order of Judge Enrique Pérez.
Cordoba is a former alternate for Panameñista Deputy Luis Eduardo Quirós in the 8-8 circuit and ran unsuccessfully for deputy in the last election.
