OFF THE CUFF:Transparency body faces transparency challenge
DOES TRANPARENCY, like Charity, begin at home? La Prensa thinks so and the refusal of Panama’s Transparency Authority(Antai) to release the names of the officials and entities identified in complaints filed over nepotism and irregularities in procurement has prompted the publication to file a request for information with agency Director Angelica Maytín.
The request is based on the Transparency Law that was passed in 2002.
The Antai has refused to release the names, saying it violates the presumption of innocence.
But the Transparency Law states that agencies are required to provide information about the activities they are carrying out. Says La Prensa
