Dismissal of charges against ex-ministers appealed

THE DISMISSAL  of charges against two former ministers and two ex-viceministers  In a case that caused injury to the state of $44.9 million  is being appealed by the  Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office

Those charged were members of the board of the National Assistances Program (PAN)  and endorsed the  buying of dehydrated food during the  Ricardo Martinelli government

The appeal announcement was made by Attorney General, Kenia Porcell on Thursday, December 10

15th Criminal Court Judge , Leslie Loaiza, issued a dismissal of former ministers Lucy Molinar (Education) and Federico Suarez (Public Works); and exviceministers Maria Fabrega) and Marta Susana Varela (Social Development).

The Court has  called five people to trial , including Chichi Adolfo De Obarrio, former private secretary of former President Ricardo Martinelli, who is being sought by Interpol

Also called to trial for the alleged crime of embezzlement are  the  former PAN director Giacomo Tamburrelli; the former head of the Department of Nutrition at PAN, Angel Famiglietti that ex-comptroller Gioconda Torres de Bianchini; and Ruben De Ycaza, legal representative Lerkshore International Limited; company that was awarded the dehydrated food contract in 2010.

Porcell said “this proves that the theory put forth by the prosecution was confirmed by the Court to the extent that there was a crime.” Reports La Prensa.
