Concluding interviews for Supreme Court vacancies
THE 10 FINALISTS for the two vacancies on the Supreme Court, are facing their final interview, this time by a four man Executive team.
Meanwhile Ricardo Martinelli supporters and publications are circulating stories that President Juan Carlos Varela will override the commission’s recommendations and appoint new judges who were not among the 10 finalists.
The vacancies are being created by the expiring 10-year terms of Harley Mitchell and Victor Benavides. The interviews with the executive began Nov. 30. The representatives of the executive are Minister of the Presidency Álvaro Alemán, Deputy Minister of Government María Luisa Romero, presidential advisor Francisco Sierra and Legal Affairs of the Presidency Director Salvador Sanchez.
Alemán said the issues discussed include political affiliations and their thoughts on the role of the judiciary.
Cinthya Camargo, Cecilio Cedalise, Octavio Del Moral, María Eugenia López, César Augusto Moreno and Guillermo Márquez Amado have already been interviewed, said Sanchez on Saturday December 5.
The rest of the candidates will be interviewed by Monday.
The commission has already delivered a report listing its rankings of the candidates.
