Panama song selected for international festival

THE SONG Viene de Panama, by the Panamanian group Afrodiasíaco, has been selected from 500 applicants  to compete in the 2016 Viña del Mar Festiva in Chile.

The piece will be judged in the folk music category against songs from 11 other countries. Led by the singers Miroslava and Tatiana, Afrodisíaco uses a blend of traditional and modern musical styles.

he selected song “is a piece drum north” atravesao “and merges folk sound of the drum in the region of Azuero and modern elements, like the electric guitar and spoken word, making it a new vision of the Panamanian musical sound. The song  is inspired by two literary works: “La dama boba” by Lope de Vega, referring to the visit of a Panamanian Creole to the Spanish Court, and “Vision of Panama”  by Demetrio Korsi.

The festival has been held in Chile since 1960 and will run from Femruary 23 to 27. It is considered to be the most important music festival in the Americas, and annually attracts top-name headliners.
