18 Social Security projects sent for audit
Social Security (CSS) contracts totaling more than $20 million, issued by the previous administration have been sent to the Office of the Comptroller for audit.
Officials said that in some cases the contracts have yet to be fulfilled.
According to the agency, the 18 contracts range from the installation of elevators to the rental of office space. It also included a staff ewcrearion center with bar ballrroom, swimming pool and sauna.
This does not include the audit currently being conducted, of the $517 million Hospital City project, which has been plagued by problems. That project is also the subject of a criminal investigation.
Social Security Board Chairman Néstor Vega said that charges will be filed if any of the audits uncover irregularities. He said the board is committed to working with prosecutors to punish any wrongdoing.
