Canal locks repairs ready for January re-testing
REPAIRS and improvements to the third set of locks for the Panama Canal should be ready by mid-January, according to the contractor GUPC, but it has not confirmed that they will be ready for the scheduled delivery date.
The consortium, which is responsible for the design and construction of the locks, met with officials of the Panama Canal Authority on Friday November 27 to discuss the status of the work.
GUPC said that once the repairs are finished, it will resume testing the new locks which leaked when last tested
It said it is not yet clear if the scheduled delivery date of April will have to be delayed.
The expansion project is 95 percent complete.
