Meteorite falls in Chiriqui

PANAMA’S Civil Protection System (Sinaproc)  confirmed that a meteorite fell into the sea off Chiriqui on Tuesday November 24.

SINAPROC Director General Jose Donderis  said The incident occurred at about 4:20 am and was reported by the crew, captain and three sailors of the boat Heron 1, which was at Isla Ladrones , off the coast of Puerto Armuelles.

“The oceanographic conditions found there indicate that everything is normal” the official said.

At noon, the boat Garza 1 had already returned to the port of Cerro de Villa Escondida in Pedregal. Captain Carlos Rios said that at dawn they were   engaged in fishing tasks, when they noticed a reddish cloud suddenly appearing in the sky followed by a loud explosion out to sea

After reporting the incident said Rios, he decided to pick up the fishing nets lines and head back to port.

Donderis advised people in the region to remain calm, saying that  in most cases meteorites fall into the sea.
