Hit and run killing reconstruction
WITH LEGS shackled and guarded by at least 10 police officers a man accused of the hit and run killing of a prominent sports cyclist, was taken to the scene of her death on Wednesday, November 18, for a reconstruction of the incident.
The death of tri-athelete Monica Licona on a Sunday morning in September, led to demonstrations and candlelight vigils, near the site of the accident in front of the Miramar Intercontinental Hotel.
Enrique Chérigo Jaen wearing flip flops a yellow shirt and short checkered pants shuffled around the scene with his police escort, under the gaze of Judicial Investigation Department researchers, taking notes of his statements.
Several lanes of busy Avenida Balboa were closed for the judicial proceedings.
Chérigo was captured in the province of Veraguas, by the National Police six days after the accident to the rider. A $20,000 reward was offered for information leading to his capture. He had absconded, leaving the white rented vehicle several blocks from the accident.
