Panamas role in fight against IS
PANAMA will not be part of the military coalition fighting against the Islamic State but will further toughen regulations to control money laundering that could aid terrorism says Vice President and Chancellor Isabel de Saint Malo.
Speaking on TVN on Tuesday, November 17 she said: “Panama has no army and will not participate in the military coalition,” and some local media have deliberately misrepresented the country’s position
“The coalition against the Islamic State is comprised of six commissions. Panama would participate in the coalition on the financial aspect since we have a robust financial center,” she said.
The fight would include adding more controls against money laundering and drug trafficking, as well as terrorism.
She stressed that the position of Panama is to promote peace and maintain a policy in favor of human rights.
