Fourth Canal bridge project moving on
CONSTRUCTION of the eight lan fourth bridge over the Panama Canal will be under the direction of the Ministry of Public Works (MoP)
The decision to move control from the Metro Authority will be finalized once the Ministry of the Environment approves the environmental impact study for the project. The study was prepared by URS Holding, Inc.
The fourth bridge over the Canal will be built in the area north of the Bridge of the Americas. Its design will be cable-stayed, similar to the Centennial Bridge. It will be 1,118 meters long, and have eight lanes, six for cars and two for the Metro, reports La Prensa.
The Ministry of Public Works has already put the first contract for the project out to bid, a $22.2 million tender for “technical services to ensure the proper achievement of the objectives of the project in terms of its design, and construction”
