Lawyers push judge to move on Martinelli

LAWYERS of victims of government  wiretapping are trying to light a fire under the Supreme Court judge who has been sitting on a file indicting former president Ricardo Martinelli.

They announced Tuesday  October 27,  that they will  submit an application to Lawyers try  to get stalled judge moving on Martinelli

get  the guarantee judge in the process, Jeronimo Mejia, to decide as soon as possible the date for the hearing against  Martinelli

Carlos Herrera Moran, attorney of Doctor Mauro Zuñiga, victim of wiretapping, said  that the application  will follow the request made by the prosecutor Judge Harry Diaz, that the hearing be held as soon as possible. The request was made by Diaz when he presented his indictment on October 9.

The request of Zuñiga’s was done because of the stalling of the process by the guarantee judge, who has not notified the defense of Martinelli of the indictment.

Osvaldo Galez Pinzon, lawyer of former  PRD presidential candidate Balbina  Herrera, supports the points made by Moran to streamline the process.

He warned that the Criminal Procedure Code sets strict peremptory times for the guarantee judge to act and also sets administrative sanctions for breach of the deadlines.
