Mi-Bus ordered to pay workers $2.8 million
THE ILL-FAVORED Mass Transport Company of Panama (Mi Bus) introduced by the previous administration was ordered on Wednesday October 21 by an Arbitration Tribunal to pay $2.8 million in overtime claimed by the union of workers of the company.
After three months of sessions, the Arbitral Tribunal (composed of a representative of the company, one of the government and one of the workers, and created by the Ministry of Labor based on the Labour Code), signed the decision that resolve this labor dispute, which last to a strike in public transport system on July 8, 2015. The company was also widely criticized by users for long delays and poor service.
The resolution was supported by Metro Bus operators, who, from a year ago, demanded payment of overtime, holidays and national days to 4,000 workers, said Ivan Asprilla, defense secretary of the union.
