Two face helicopter snafu investigation

THE ACQUISITION of 19 radars for $125 million during the last administration has come back to haunt former Minister of Public Security   José Raúl Mulino and former  National Security Council Executive Secretary Alejandro Garuz .

Mulino has  long tried to distance himself from the deal and Garuz is already in custody in connection with alleged wiretaps ordered by the agency while he was in office.

They will appear  before he Third Anti-corruption prosecutor on  Thursday October 22,

The contract was signed with Selex, a subsidiary of the Italian defense consortium Finmeccanica, in August 2010. It was part of a $250 million defense contract with the consortium that arose from a memorandum of understanding signed by former President Ricardo Martinelli and former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

The deal has been linked to bribery allegations in Italy and Panama.

On Aug. 26, the third chamber of the Supreme Court provisionally suspended the contract due to “irregularities.”
