OFF THE CUFF: Chief judge leads Junket No. 26
PANAMA’S high flying Supreme Court Chief Justice José Ayú Prado has added Russia to his previous 25 foreign trips.
As the Court labor’s over an ever growing backlog of unresolved cases, including a dozen involving ex-president Ricardo Martinelli, Ayu Prado finds time to visit countries around the world. He recently returned from a five day trip to Germany, where he reportedly discussed human rights. The Court also complains of insufficient funds to carry out its duties.
He made the trip at the invitation of Russian Supreme Court Chief Justice Viacheslav Lebedev.
The Supreme Court said that the magistrate will hold “bilateral meetings of cooperation” with Lebedev. In addition, he will meet with Judicial Department Director Alexander Guseva and Prosecutor Yury Chayka.
He will also visit the Constitutional Court and the Municipal Court of Petersburg.
He is being accompanied by Fourth District Court Judge Otilda Vergara de Valderrama, First Tribunal Superior Court Judge Lilianne Ducruet Núñez and Director of Judicial Audits Ginette Díaz Andrión. Is Russia trawling for post perestroika billionaires?
