Search for new judges set to start
THE PROCESS to name new Supreme Court justices will begin Monday October 12, says President Juan Carlos Varela.
That will be the date that the presidency publishes an advertisement in newspapers announcing that it will accept applications for the vacancies.
Varela said that this will be “an issue that will be handled with much consultation and seriousness.”
He explained that the choice will be “a product of this process that we are doing,” and that the appointees will “comply with the expectations of the entire country.”
The court will have two vacancies in December, as the terms of judges Harley Mitchell and Nelly Cedeño will expire. Cedeño filled the position vacated by Alejandro Moncada Luna, who was removed from the court when he was convicted of fraud.
Another, Victor Benavides, under investigation has resigned.
