University medical school to expand

THE  FACULTY of Medicine at the University of Panama(UP) will increase from 200 to 300 says  President, Juan Carlos Varela.

He made the announcement on Monday  August 14, saying that the expansion is possible thanks to the signing of  international conventions allowing economic support.

He added that the research center will be supported by the central government.
The president recalled that the UP Faculty of Medicine of the University of Panama is the center that has graduated thousands of health professionals.
The Ministries of Health and Social Security in coordination with the faculty will work on the preparation of tender documents for the design and construction of the new Faculty of Medicine.
The expansion is expected to help solve the chronic shortage of doctors.
