Microsoft eyeing Panama as regional hub

MULTINATIONAL giant Microsoft is looking to become the 115th company with  a regional headquarters in Panama, according to The Ministry of Trade and Industry.

 In a statement the  Ministry said that Microsoft showed an interest in establishing a “data center hub for  regional operations and  investment regimes, among other services, and considers that Panama offers the advantages  of geography and connectivity,”


To advance the negotiations, Trade Minister Meliton Arrocha, met this week with Mariano De Beer, regional director for Latin America and José Marante, general manager of Microsoft Panama.
“An upcoming meeting between the two to advance the search for positive results is expected,” the statement added.
As of  May this year, Panama has 114 regional  headquarters of multinational companies, including 28 from the United States.
Others are Switzerland and the Netherlands, 10 apiece; South Korea and Germany, 7 each; Spain and China, 6 each;  France and Sweden, 5 each; Japan,4; Denmark and Venezuela, 3 each;
The rest is distributed among other corporations from16 countries or territories, including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Belarus, Canada, Colombia, Finland, Gibraltar, Guatemala, Honduras, British Virgin Islands, Mexico, Peru, Panama, UK and Singapore.
