Dodger Corcionne urged to face prosecutor music
WHILE THE BOARD of the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has no “power” to suspend from office one of its members, it urges Nicolas Corcione “to personally face the charges” from the Special Prosecutor against Organized Crime, in the course of a money laundering and bribery investigation linked to ex-Supreme Court judge Alejandro Moncada.
Prosecutor Nahaniel Murgas has been trying without success Since July 29 to investigate Corcione. Initially he did not appear, claiming he was on a “family trip”. Later, his lawyer Roberto Moreno filed a motion alleging that Corcione must be called by the Supreme Court, in his capacity as “manager” of the ACP.
In a letter to Angelica Maytín, director of the National Authority of Transparency and Access to Information (Antai), Roberto Roy, president of the board of the ACP, said that the Constitution, the Basic Law and other regulations do not allow the appointment, suspension, or removal from office of the members of the board.
He adds that they can only be removed for committing an intentional crime or against public administration or proven physical, mental or administrative incompetence.
In this case, the competence rests with the President and the Assembly.
