Attorney General negates political persecution
PANAMA’S Attorney General hit back on Sunday, August 2, at critics of the ongoing corruption investigations who follow the mantra of former president Ricardo Martinelli alleging “political persecution”
Kenya Porcell said today that investigations carried out by her agency are not motivated by politics, but rather by evidence presented to prosecutors and she warned that more prosecutions are on the way.
“We are not applying selective justice,” said Porcell in a televised interview.
She said the prosecutors do not select individuals to be investigated, but follow the law and respond to criminal complaints filed with her office.
“No serious country would allow selective justice,” Porcell said.
The office has launched high-profile corruption investigations involving former government officials a large part of the Martinelli cabinet and close business associates of former Martinelli. Many are in preventive detention, house arrest or country arrest Others, including Martinelli have fled the country.
According to the top prosecutor, there are more investigations about to begin.
