PRD-Panameista deal in danger

AS THE PRD struggles with its own internal dimensions its National Assembly relationship with the Panameñista party is in danger.

The two parties have a legislative alliance, but the Panameñistas have refused to support PRD Deputy Crispiano Adames as the next president of the National Assembly due to his relationship with Ricardo Martinelli when he was president.
Panameñistas Luis Eduardo Quirós and Luis Barría were supposed to meet with Adames, but so far he has refused to meet with them.
Benicio Robinson, president of the PRD, said that the party expects the Panameñistas to respect the alliance between the groups.
“If the Panameñistas want a modification of the agreement or have an objection, they must appoint a commission as a party and not meet between members,” a PRD.source told La Prensa.
Quirós said today that the agreement was signed with the aim of strengthening the institutional framework of the country, which “was impaired in the last five years.”
