OFF THE CUFF: Heatwave to continue for two weeks
IF YOU THOUGHT it was hotter than usual in Panama city on Wednesday, June 24, you were right, as the heat index made it feel like 41 degrees Celsius — and there’s lots more to come.
A report from the electrical transmission company Etesa reveals that the relative humidity in the atmosphere was 83 percent, which coupled with the temperature of 34 degrees Celsius created “great discomfort” for people on the streets.
Meteorologist Carlos Centella explained that this heat wave will continue during the next two weeks and is due to the convergence of several factors, including: the El Niño phenomena, climate change and the lack of surface wind. Climate change sceptics are expected to discount at least one of the reasons.
