Thestatements were released by the Brazilian magazine Epoca, which cites people close to Emilio Odebrecht, who has taken over the reins of the company after his son’s arrest
However, the prosecutor Carlos Fernando dos Santos Lima told Reuters that his team is not investigating the former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, as the local press suggested might happen, due to his relationship with Odebrecht. “The fact is that, if we find a cause, he will be investigated like anyone else,” he said.
The investigation, will last at least 2 years and could be extended involving more than ten foreign companies and the local electricity company Eletrobras, the prosecutor said. Connections with Panama are already being investigated.
