Schoolbags scam cost State $14.2 million
THE ATTORNEY General’s Office launched an investigation on Thursday, June 18 for the possible patrimonial injury in the case of the purchase of school bags by the Education Ministry (Meduca) through the National Assistance Program (PAN).
One former minister and two officials of the previous administration, are linked to the alleged scam according to the prosecution reports La Prensa.
The alleged damage amounting to $14.2 million. Six companies are also involved according to the report of the Office of Investigations and Forensic Audits of the Comptroller.
“The report, submitted to this institution, expresses a possible economic damage for the increase in expenditure on purchasing and distributing backpacks nationwide during 2012,” says the prosecutor.
