Appeal denied for Mario Martinelli
PANAMA’S Supreme Court has denied an appeal for Mario Martinelli, the brother of ex-President Ricardo Martinelli, requesting the annulment of the ocular inspection by the First Anticorruption Prosecutor of three safety deposit boxes at the National Bank of Panama (BNP).
Martinelli is accused of embezzlement, fraud and corruption, for alleged irregularities in the purchase of grains with money from the National Assistance Program (PAN).
Judge Abel Zamorano was the rapporteur of theMay 13 judgment in which it was unanimously decided it was not admissible as the prosecution did not violate due process.
Martinelli’s lawyer Jose Nelson Brandao, presented a resolution demanding repeal of the March 27, inspection of deposit boxes at the BNP branch in Costa del Este.
Martinelli has diabetes and has acountry jail injunction
The Second Court must resolve the appeal by the legal defense of Martinelli to $2 million bail granted by the Fifteenth Criminal Court.
