Highway blocked 6 hours to protest water shortage
AFTER BLOCKING the Transismica highway for six hours and causing major traffic delays, residents of Nueva Providencia, Colón got the attention of Panama’s two top elected offcials, President Juan Carlos Varela and Vice-President Isabel de Saint Malo de Alvarado
Lines of vehicles stretching from Quebrada Ancha to Sabanitas as the residents protested lack of drinking water caused major traffic problems throughout Monday, May 25.
Vice President Isabel de Saint Malo de Alvarado and Colón Mayor Federico Policani met with the protesters, and promised to provide tanker trucks to the communtiy seven days a week, and to start work on a permanent solution.
Meanwhile President Juan Carlos Varela promised the protesters that he will personally take care of the problem and will comply with the promises made by his government.
