OFF THE CUFF: Martinelli hospital walls come tumbling down

THE WALLS of the much touted Hospital City controversially named after ex-president Ricardo Martinelli, while he was still in office, will soon, like his former power base, come tumbling down

The Spanish construction company that put them up, Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC) will need to spend $4 million to replace 70,000 linear meters of walls within the project.
Social Security Director Estivenson Giron said the change was approved after negotiations were held with FCC representatives. Giron said that the agreement provides that the builder will assume the costs of this change.
He added that technicians are currently assessing what material is best suited to replace the existing walls, which were deemed unsuitable for a hospital because they could harbor bacteria.
The new material must meet standards set by the WHO  and the Pan-American Health Organization says La Prensa,
FCC has not commented publicly on the situation
